In this paper Professor Peter explains how the sorts of questions frequently posed to him have changed over the years. In the early part of his career, people were interested in understanding how to go about implementing a lean transformation. More latterly people seek to understand how this transformations may be sustained over time.
These more contemporary issues inspired the publication of Staying Lean. Professor Hines identifies insufficient attention to the people side as the main cause of failed or underwhelming transformation. Cultural transformation is integral to sustainable lean transformation and yet the lean community remains devoid of any real guidance in this area.
