The negative impacts of ignoring the Shingo Principles

Successful organisations are often guided by the Shingo principles:-

  1. Lead with Humility
  2. Respect Every Individual
  3. Focus on Process
  4. Embrace Scientific Thinking
  5. Flow & Pull Value
  6. Assure Quality at the Source
  7. Seek Perfection
  8. Create Constancy of Purpose
  9. Think Systemically
  10. Create Value for the Customer

Conversely, organisations who ignore these principles fail to deliver success ……for example:

1. Where there is ‘enterprise misalignment’ you can witness inconsistency of purpose and lack a systematic approach.

2. Where there are ‘cultural disablers’ these can manifest themselves as leading with humiliation where everyone is disrespected.

3. Where there is ‘occasional improvement’, often the focus is on the individual not the process, flow and pull value adding activities are ignored, organisations bypass quality at source and dismiss scientific thinking, resulting in performance levels matching mediocrity.

4. The ‘results’ from these behaviours adversely impact the customer.
