This 2 Day face-to-face Shingo Discover Excellence workshop is the foundational Shingo workshop and introduces the Shingo Model, the Guiding Principles and the Three Insights of Organisational Excellence.
In this workshop you will witness at first hand how Shingo principles drive behavior throughout the entire organization to deliver world class results. This course is accredited and certified to both the Shingo Institute and CPD service (Continual Professional Development). You will learn to align your organizational principles and core values with your systems. Group activities are used to help develop skills in assessing alignment and how to address misalignments by embedding your principles into your work and management systems.

Meet your Facilitators
Rick Guba is a senior consultant at S A Partners, as well as a faculty member in the Master of Business Operational Excellence program at The Ohio State University’s Fisher Business College. Mr. Guba joined Fisher in 2016 after retiring from General Electric Company, where he worked for 35 years. At GE, he held multiple manufacturing and design positions in a variety of locations, with his most recent role of managing the Lean transformation in GE’s 87 Aviation Division global facilities. Mr. Guba has extensive experience in Six Sigma, Lean methodology, change management, teaming, leadership development, and manufacturing management. His experience includes problem solving in traditional manufacturing applications as well as transactional applications. He earned a BS in engineering from the University of Dayton and MBOE from The Ohio State University.About the Host Site
The Utah Transit Authority traces its roots to 1953 when several bus companies united to form the organization. The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) is a special service district responsible for providing public transportation throughout the Wasatch Front of Utah, in the United States, which includes the metropolitan areas of Ogden, Park City, Provo, Salt Lake City and Tooele. It operates fixed route buses, flex route buses, express buses, ski buses, three light rail lines in Salt Lake County (TRAX), a streetcar line in Salt Lake City (the S-Line), and a commuter rail train (FrontRunner) from Ogden through Salt Lake City to Provo.
UTA is headquartered in Salt Lake City with operations and garages in locations throughout the Wasatch Front, including Ogden, Midvale and Orem. Light rail vehicles are stored and maintained at yards at locations in South Salt Lake and Midvale. UTA’s commuter rail equipment is stored and serviced at a facility in Salt Lake City. In 2023, the system had a ridership of 35,058,000, or about 133,500 per weekday as of the first quarter of 2024.
